What is board and train?

Board and train is a system that allows the owner to learn to be good dog handlers while dogs go through an immersive lifestyle training bootcamp

Lifestyle training

  • Greeting manners (not jumping)
  • Waiting politely at doors and gates (wait when they are opened until you release them)
  • Waiting politely for meals (wait until they are released)
  • Training with distractions (dogs and people)
  • End of training public visit to proof the training, fun visits to a veterinarian, calm well-mannered visits to restaurant, trips to dog friendly businesses where there are many people, and trips to places with lots of dogs or animals.

List of commands

(foundation commands all dogs need to know)

"Dog's name" attention and focus on handler

"Sit"

"Down"

"Come" recall with sit in front

"Go to place" all 4 paws on a object like dog bed, platform, or area rug

"Go to kennel/crate" freely enter crate and calmly exit crate upon release

"Heal" loose leash walking with shoulder next to left leg

"Easy" relax walk, or potty walk, dog can go to end of leash but no pulling

"Free" release from all commands

"Let me see" allow touching and inspection of body, paw, ear, etc

Owner participation

Owners are required to be involved in the training process. This includes once a week private training session while the dog is living at the training facility, an in home/ going home transition training session, once a week training session for the following month after the dog goes home. The training is only halfway over when the dog goes home and needs consistency and support from the owners and their trainer to maintain all the hard work the dog has gone through.
